SIGNIFICANT EVENTS

First Youth Camp: 14-19 December, 1970

The First Youth Camp was held in Loyola Hall at Loyola School campus for five days which gave rise to JYOTI Movement in the Steel City of Jamshedpur.

 JYOTI Gets a Formal Structure and Setting Up of JYOTI Office: 24 April, 1971

A formal structure was given to the Youth Movement by naming it JYOTI and the Head Office was set up at St. Joseph’s Welfare Centre, Golmuri in Mid-January, 1971.

 JYOTI involves in Refugee Relief Services: 12 May to 2 June, 1971

JYOTI wholeheartedly responded to the first call for humanitarian service to go to the borders of East Pakistan and India, with Bhalurghat as its headquarters, immersing in refugees service during Indo-Pakistan War, 1971.

 The First Youth Festival conducted at College Level: 12—13 August, 1972

Under the guidance of Fr. Joseph Currie, the Coordinator, the First Youth Camp at College level was held in Women’s College on 12—13 August, 1972.

 JYOTI gets its Motto and Logo, the Significant Identity—1971

JYOTI got its motto as “To lead is to serve with love”, aptly describing what JYOTI was going to be at the service of humanity and accordingly the Movement’s Logo was designed by Mr. Kulwant Singh, a student of  Loyola School in 1971.

 Relief Work for Andhra Pradesh Cyclone Victims—27th November to 10 December, 1977

Under the able leadership of Fr. Emile Coelho S.J, the then JYOTI Coordinator, the Members collected relief material for the cyclone victims of Andhra Pradesh on 27th November to 10th December, 1977.

 Relief Work for Odisha Cyclone Victims—19 October 1982

Relief material was collected by JYOTI Members on 11-12 October, 1982 for the Odisha flood affected people and seven students travelled to render relief service in Puri, Odisha on 13 November, 1982.

JYOTI Office Shifted to Loyola School campus—December, 1982

Fr. Abraham Enthemkuzhy, S.J, the Coordinator, was instrumental in shifting JYOTI Head Office from St. Joseph’s Welfare Centre, Golmuri to Loyola School Campus in December, 1982.

 JYOTI flags off Interschool Tournaments—September, 1984

Having foreseen the need for initiating some sporting events so as to create a scope for enhancing talents in sports, Fr. Augustine Ezhakunnel, SJ, the Coordinator initiated the JYOTI Basketball Tournament in 1984.

 Youth Festival Renamed as Rhapsody—1996

Talents search activities rose to its peak during the early nineties and the traditionally held JYOTI Youth Festival was renamed as RHAPSODY by Fr. Michael T. Raj, SJ, the Coordinator in 1996.

JYOTI Financially Assists the Jamshedpur Blind Association—30 November, 1996

Raising fund for the Blind Association of Jamshedpur was an outstanding contribution done in collaboration with Mr. Bailey Bodhanwala, a noted philanthropist in Jamshedpur in 30 November, 1996.

 Odisha Relief Work Post 1999 Super Cyclone

The JYOTI Members ventured into doing extensive relief work in Odisha and Jharkhand aftermath the devastating Super Cyclone in 1999.

Rajnagar Relief Work Post 2003 Hailstorms

JYOTI Members reached out to the people of Rajnagar area who were affected by the cyclonic hailstorms and in addition donated Rs.50,000.00 for the repairs of damaged roofs of peoples’ houses in August, 2003.

Revival of JYOTI Leadership Camp—2017

After a long gap, the traditional Youth Leadership Training Program was revived and the Annual Motivational Seminar was held in Loyola School on 26 June, 2017 under the leadership of Fr.Dayanidhi Bisoi, SJ.

Workshop and Rally on Ecological Awareness—24 June, 1918

As part of the JYOTI Annual Common Program, a one-day seminar on ecology was conducted by TARUMITRA and rallies were held in the city on 24 June, 2018 on the theme- “Care for our Common Home.”

JYOTI reaches out to Assam Flood Victims—August, 2018

Upholding its past record and under the leadership of Fr.Dayanidhi Bisoi, SJ, JYOTI once again responded to another emergency by collecting about 9 tones of relief material for the Flood Victims of Assam in August, 2018.

 JYOTI Website Launched—24 October, 2020

JYOTI launched its official website under the name www.jyotijsr.com that was designed by Fr. Dayanidhi Bisoi, SJ, the Coordinator of JYOTI.

JYOTI Completed 50 Golden Years as an enduring Youth Movement in January, 2021

JYOTI completed 50 years of its illustrious service to humanity and walking with the youth in January, 2021. The Golden Jubilee was celebrated in different Units  of JYOTI in Jamshedpur.

JYOTI reaches out to Assam Flood Victims—August, 2021

YOTI once again responded to another emergency under the leadership of Fr.CG Thomas, SJ by collecting about 12 tones of relief material for the Flood Victims of Assam in August, 2021.
