JYOTI BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

Initiated in 1984

JYOTI Basketball Tournament is one of the premier and prestigious tournaments in the Steel City of Jamshedpur that was initiated by Fr.Augustine Ezhakunnel, SJ; the then Coordinator of JYOTI in 1984. The aim of initiating this sporting event for JYOTI was to create a scope for sports-lovers who wished to enhance and showcase talents in sports. This Tournament has gained recognition and prominence over the years. Today this Tournament has become one of the most awaited events for sports persons who wish to participate and compete with each other. More than 35 teams of boys and girls categories participate in this Tournament every year. This Tournament is conducted under the aegis of Jharkhand Basketball Association.

TEAM CATEGORIES

JYOTI TOURNAMENT-2016 November, 21-23

The JYOTI Basketball Tournament-2016 was held at the Tata Sports Complex. Fr.Sebastian Puthenpura, SJ, the Principal of Loyola School was the Chief Guest for the opening ceremony. Fr.Dayanidhi Bisoi, SJ; the Coordinator of JYOTI welcomed all 24 participating teams in the Tournament from 14 Schools in Jamshedpur. Mr.Harbhajan Singh (Olympian) was the Chief Guest for the closing ceremony who was joined by Fr.C.L.George, SJ, the Rector and Fr.Staney Furtado, SJ, the Treasurer and Administrator and Mrs.Jayanthi Seshadri, the Registrar of Loyola School were the Guests of Honour. All three of them gave away the prizes, trophies and medals to the winners. The Loyola School JYOTI Unit led by Miss.Sejal Singh, the President and Miss.Asmi Vice President , conducted the Tournament smoothly.

JYOTI TOURNAMENT-2017 December, 11-14

The JYOTI Basketball Tournament-2017 was held at St.Mary’s English Junior School campus. A total of 22 teams from 11 Schools participated in the Tournament. Fr. Puthumai Raj, the Principal of St.Mary’s English High School, Bistupur was the Chief Guest for the opening day who inaugurated the Tournament. The Tournament was concluded on 14th December. Mr.Raghunath Pandey, the JUSCO Labour Union President was the Chief Guest who gave away the prizes, medals and trophies to the winners and winning teams. And Mr.Harbhajan Singh (Olympian) and Vice President of Jharkhand Basketball Association was the Guest of Honour for the concluding ceremony. Both of them gave away the prizes, trophies and medals to the winners and winning teams.

JYOTI TOURNAMENT-2018 November, 21-25

The 35^th JYOTI Basketball Tournament was held from 21 to 25 November, 2018 on St.Mary’s Junior School Courts. Fr. C. L. George, SJ, the Rector of Loyola School was the Chief Guest while Fr.Puthumai Raj, the Principal of St. Mary’s School was the Guest of Honour for the closing ceremony. Mr.Harbhajan Singh, the Vice-President of Jharkhand Basketball Association too was the Guest of Honour for the opening ceremony. Fr.Dayanidhi Bisoi, SJ the Coordinator of JYOTI welcomed the 25 teams from 13 Schools. Mr. Harbhajan Singh, Fr. Pius Fernandes, S.J. the Principal of Loyola School and Fr Alex Darwin and Sr. Rashmi Prabhu, the Vice principals of St.Mary’s too were present on the occasion.

JYOTI TOURNAMENT-2019 November, 05-10

The JYOTI Basketball Tournament-2019 was held at the St.Mary’s English School from 5 to 10 November, 2019. Fr.K.M.Joseph, SJ, the Rector of Loyola School was the Chief Guest for the opening day while Fr.Puthumai Raj, the Principal of St.Mary’s School and Mr.Harbhajan Singh (Olympian), the Vice President of Jharkhand Basketball Association were the Guests of Honour for both the concluding and opening day’s functions. The School Choir of St.Mary’s High School sung the prayer song while the senior girls presented the opening dance.

Mr.Bidyut Baran Mahato, the Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha (BPJ) was the Chief Guest for the closing ceremony. All the three dignitaries gave away the prizes, trophies and medals to the winners. The Tournament was conducted smoothly under the supervision of Fr.Dayanidhi Bisoi, SJ; the Coordinator of JYOTI and Loyola School JYOTI Unit supervised by Mr.Jyoti Srivastava and Ms.Tahamina Akhtar, the Moderators.

JYOTI Basketball Tournament-2022 was held at the St.Mary’s English School from 6 to 10 November, 2022. Fr.K.M.Joseph, SJ, the Rector of Loyola School was the Chief Guest while Fr.Vernan, the Principal of St.Mary’s School, and Fr.Vinod Fernandes, SJ; the Vice Principal of Loyola School were the Guests of Honour for both the opening and concluding functions. They gave away the prizes, trophies and medals to the winners. The JYOTI Unit of Loyola School, supervised by Mr.Anthony Rodrigues, the Moderator and Mr.Ram Kumar, the Moderator of Loyola Hindi School, the Tournament was organized smoothly.

JYOTI Basketball Tournament-2024 was held at Loyola School, Bistpur from 24 to 27 October, 2024. Fr.Donald D’Silva, SJ, the Superior of XLRI was the Chief Guest for the inaugural ceremony while Fr.K.M.Joseph, SJ, the Rector of Loyola School, and Fr.Vinod Fernandes, SJ; Principal of Loyola School were the Guests of Honour for both the opening and concluding functions. They gave away the prizes, trophies and medals to the winners. The JYOTI Unit of Loyola School, supervised by Mr.Anthony Rodrigues, the Moderator of Loyola School, the Tournament was organized smoothly.
