Miss.Leela Saha

Miss.Leela Saha was a teacher in Loyola School, Bistupur during the time JYOTI was conceptualized in 1970s. She became enthusiastic about the proposed youth camp and actively took part to organize the same held in Loyola School from 14 to 19 December, 1970. Then she became one of the mentors during the initial years. When JYOTI wanted to set up a formal office in St.Joseph’s Welfare Centre, she approached Fr.Joseph Currie to avail a room for the same. She fondly recalls the incident saying, “I led the group of students to clean a small room in St.Joseph’s Welfare Centre and that became the JYOTI office”. She was instrumental in conceptualizing the JYOTI Logo that was sketched by Mr.Kulwant Singh, a student and JYOTI Member then.

Mr Kulwant Singh

Mr Kulwant Singh was a one of the youths who belonged to the first batch JYOTI members in 1970. He was the then young artist who sketched the JYOTI logo which is being used till today bearing significance to what JYOTI is today. He was motivated by Mrs Leela Shah who then a teacher in Loyola School under McGully as the Principal and Rector of Loyola School. Inspired by Mrs Leela, Mr Kulwant  drew the Logo that was which meaningfully captured the vision and mission of JYOTI Movement. Mr Singh lives in London and reminisces his membership and contribution in the Movement.

Mr C S Venket was one of the active moderators or area leader of JYOTI unit of Telco Unit. He involved himself in the activity of JYOTI with great dedication and undying commitment   He engaged the members of JYOTI in lot of social service activities in Jamshedpur. He accompanied the youth to different places. Mr. C. S. Venkat who was the teacher in   in Little Flower School shouldered the responsibility of being the Moderator of JYOTI Unit of Telco. He engaged the JYOTI members in social work along with his colleague Mr. Kirpal Singh. JYOTI will ever be grateful to this dedicated moderator for his unique contribution.

Mr.Tony Castleton

Mr.Tony Castleton was a student, during the time the First Youth Camp was held in Loyola School, Bistupur. He was one of the student members who participated in the First Youth Camp in December, 1970 when Jyoti was first conceptualized. He became enthusiastic about the proposed youth camp and actively took part to organize the First Youth Camp that was held in Loyola School.  His association with JYOTI has been an ongoing adventure since its inception.

Mrs.Dilith Castleton

Mrs. Dilith Castleton, has been a dynamic leader, who during her studies in Jamshedpur women’s College, went on to be elected as the 2nd JYOTI President. Practically nothing could stop this young lady, who hailed from a humble background, from taking JYOTI to great heights. And of course, not to forget that she and Tony Castleton were JYOTI couples to be married later. Both of whom, made substantial contributions to JYOTI by leading it from the front during its initial stages. The couple has now retired from their jobs, but still continues to support JYOTI activities.

JYOTI Since 1971
